A Durable Siding Upgrade for an Ambler Home

This residence in the Borough of Ambler, part of Montgomery County, received a complete siding replacement designed to do more than freshen the color from the curb. The project renewed the exterior wall surface and the details that help keep water moving away from the structure.
Lemus installed Hardie® Siding & Trim products from James Hardie, coordinating the new cladding around openings, corners, roof lines, and other transitions. The finished exterior is the visible result. The careful preparation behind it is the part that earns its keep when the weather turns.
Removing the Existing Exterior in Sections
The old siding was removed in a planned sequence to expose workable areas of the wall while keeping the project organized. This gave the crew access to the substrate and transition details without leaving the entire home open at once. Material handling and debris control helped maintain a cleaner job site around the residence.
Preparing the Wall for Fiber Cement
A flat, correctly detailed substrate supports the performance and appearance of a fiber cement exterior. The wall surface and water-resistive components were prepared before the new siding was installed, with particular attention to the areas around windows, doors, penetrations, and terminations.
Installing Hardie® Siding With Consistent Lines
The siding courses were laid out to maintain alignment across each elevation. Proper spacing, fastening, and clearances helped the Hardie® products sit cleanly and preserve the drainage path behind the finish. The result is a more orderly exterior that feels appropriate to the house rather than pasted onto it.
Using Trim to Tie the Architecture Together
Trim framed the openings, resolved corners, and defined the points where siding met other materials. These elements also worked with the flashing strategy at the wall’s more vulnerable transitions. Good siding covers the field. Good trim makes the field make sense.
A Cohesive Exterior With Long-Term Purpose
The completed building envelope upgrade gave the home a cleaner streetside presence and renewed the outer protective layer of the walls. The Hardie® siding and trim now work together visually and technically, which is the difference between a cosmetic change and a proper exterior renovation.
