Using Siding and Trim to Resolve the Entire Exterior
Project Status: Completed
A siding field can be installed well and still look unfinished if the transitions are treated as an afterthought. This Doylestown-area project in Bucks County focused on a complete Hardie siding installation, with the trim package carrying equal weight in the finished design.
Lemus used Hardie® Siding & Trim products from James Hardie to create a durable exterior with consistent lines around windows, doors, corners, roof intersections, and material changes. The wall surface provides the broad protection. The transitions decide whether the system actually holds together.
Starting With a Deliberate Elevation Layout
Before new materials were installed, the crew established how siding courses and trim lines would travel across each elevation. Planning the layout in advance reduced awkward cuts and helped the exterior remain balanced around openings and changes in wall height.
Preparing the Substrate and Drainage Plane
The existing cladding was removed to provide access to the wall beneath it. The substrate and water-management layers were prepared for the new work, giving the siding a stable base and helping water move toward the exterior at the vulnerable interruption points.
Installing the Hardie® Siding Field
Hardie® siding was installed with consistent alignment, fastening, clearances, and terminations. Those details support both appearance and performance. The finished courses create depth across the façade without introducing visual noise or the uneven edges that can make new material look old on day one.
Finishing Openings, Corners, and Transitions
The exterior trim replacement defined the architecture and resolved the joints where siding could not simply continue. Window and door surrounds, corners, and other transitions were coordinated with the wall’s flashing strategy. The result is a finish that looks composed because the technical work beneath it was composed first.
A Product-Focused Exterior Upgrade
This weatherproof exterior renovation gave the home a sharper visual identity while renewing its outer protective layer. The Hardie® siding carries the broad elevations. The trim does the close work. Together, they create a finished exterior that reads cleanly at thirty feet and still holds up when you walk to the front door.
